EspacioBRUT is a design studio in Madrid whose aim is to disseminate the need for—and wonders of—alternative design. Braulio Rodríguez, the designer, trained as an architect and specializes in furniture design. He continues to work on building projects and also frequently collaborates with other architects and designers. José Cámara, the other half of espacioBRUT, focuses on the more organizational side of the business. Both men also work as interior designers in their studio HOLZ57 and as art gallery curators.
Since 2009, espacioBRUT has been a store-studio as well as an art gallery and bookshop. The team works here every day, surrounded by art and items chosen for their ability to make people happy. The aim is to produce well-imagined and thought-out design, with the ultimate objective of improving people's lives. Ultimately espacioBRUT hopes to further its influence within Europe and throughout the world by speaking a simple language: easily understood design influenced by Modernism and the European avant-garde.
"Our furniture is like small buildings or creatures whose roots and cultural references can be found in architecture, art and European design from the 20th century. We believe in their survival over time, not only because they have been well-built, manually, in a small workshop but also because they are also able to support any kind of space and contemporary decor ... or not. With this we are satisfied."
