Marion Friedmann presents experimental glass by Gala Fernández

One of our favorite projects we've seen during London Design Festival this week is Out of the Cage, an exhibition presented by Marion Friedmann Gallery at the Instituto Cervantes. The work on view consists of a vibrant and lyrical series of birdcages filled with mouth-blown glass, created through a collaboration between designer Gala Fernández and Mexican glass manufacturer Nouvel Studio.

Once homes to colorful pet birds, these discarded cages have had new life (literally) blown into them—such enchanting conversation pieces!

Fernandez is a Spanish designer currently living and working in Mexico City. Citizen of the world, she has lived in Italy, France, UK, Portugal, and Spain and has worked with Jaime Hayon at Fabrica and consulted for El Ultimo Grito, among others. To boot, she is partner and consultant at Abierto Mexicano de Diseño, the Mexico City Design Festival founded in 2013.
