Adam Železný's Blast Bowls

We're so excited to introduce the Blast series by Adam Železný to the Shop this week! These inventive vessels are shaped by a shockwave induced by controlled detonation. Železný has set up a sophisticated system of explosive charges—based on intricate measurements and tests—that determine the final form of the bowls.

According to Železný, "The important point is the act of creation of the bowl. The blast event lasts no longer than the actual detonation; a shockwave . . . spreads at a supersonic speed and partially imprints itself into the ceramic mass. It is kind of a punk analogy to an industrial porcelain production."
