After his artistic studies, Robert-Jean Chapuis begins as a visual photographer.
He works on several series where he addresses classic and humanistic subjects, around the landscape and French rurality.
It also works volumes and architectural solids in a more abstract lineage, close to Bauhaus and Kertrete.
These are in this demanding work that Robert-Jean Chapuis founded the essence of his photographic style: attention to the lines and volumes, still clean and refined, which works in pairs with the attention paid to the human and terrestrial side of the life.
During the sixties and seventies, he worked at the Fashion Official and his photographs, with their rigorous style and inventive frames, help create the aesthetics of the sixties.
Many of them are icons that have marked their generation.
In 1976, it appears on the winners of the Kodak Prize for Photographic Critic (mention).
Robert-Jean Chapuis was also the author of many advertising campaigns, especially for perfumes and cosmetics.
His style is always easily recognizable, with always a purity in the line and a perfect construction.
Beside his photographer's career, Robert-Jean Chapuis is a sculptor with modernist lines, working the metal.
As a designer, it is marked by the formalism of the bauhaus. His creations have been published and distributed among others by the Editions Splash or Arcadia France.
Towards the end of his career, he returns to his research as a humanist photographer, working on the landscape with color dandruff. The works of this period, very internalized, reveal another facet of the artist, all in sensitivity and retained.
He died in 2010.
