Tjerk Reijenga for Pilastro metal shelves Beautiful industrial Dutch wall shelves from the 50’s by Tjerk Reijenga for Pilastro. Pilastro Furniture was started by Reijenga in 1955 to make a new modular wall unit in the same way other wall system maker String did. The Pilastro wall system was sold in various furniture stores in the Netherlands including the “Bijenkorf”, which is an Dutch luxury warehouse and the equivalent of “Harrods” in the UK. The modular pieces are made of lacquered steel. The pieces can be attached to each-other by using the iron risers that can hold the mounting brackets for the pieces. The iron risers have to be attached to a wall. Reijenga his wall system is probably the most important Dutch wall system from the mid-century. White shelf: 63 x 16 cm Black shelf: 70 x 20 cm Tjerk Reijenga Tjerk Reijenga was a Dutch designer who worked for Dutch furniture manufacturer Pilastro in the mid-century. He is a was a well respected designer and his item are still very popular nowadays. His designs for Pilastro are good examples of Dutch industrial design with many resemblances to the designs of Mathieu Mategot. A couple of his most famous items are his metal modular wall or shelving system, model 8000 lounge or arm chair, the cross frame wire stool and dining chair, the metal room divider or bookcase, perforated desk and wall lamp and coloured metal trolley and magazine stand.
